B1 - ICB Basic Level 2 in Bookkeeping

The B1 unit is the first unit (basic) of the ICB Level II Basic Certificate in Bookkeeping. If bookkeeping is your chosen career path then this is the qualification you complete first.
B1 as a taster course: As an alternative and, if you are not sure if Bookkeeping is the profession for you and don't wish to commit to the The Level II Certificate in Bookkeeping, you may enrol on B1 as a trial course to see whether bookkeeping is the right choice. The advantage of the taster course is that upon completion and providing you meet all the requirements, you will be awarded an ADL Certificate of Completion should you decide not to progress further on to B2 & B3 (please note: ICB do not award certificates for individual courses).
All course material is written to the high standards required by the New ICB syllabus, ensuring your success first time round.
The ICB Level 2 Certificate in Bookkeeping is comprised of 3 modules: B1 B2 & B3
Pre requisites:
No prior bookkeeping knowledge is required. However, students will need basic numeracy skills.
Course Content: B1 – Basic Double - Entry Bookkeeping to Trial Balance
• Underpinning knowledge
• Terms in bookkeeping (assets, liabilities etc.)
• Banking procedures
• Understanding the different categories of VAT (standard, reduced, zero, exempt, outside the scope)
• Calculation of business documents including calculation of VAT
• Entering transactions into the ledgers including the analysed cash book, cash transactions,
credit transactions, discounts,
petty cash book, two column cash book and VAT
• Making and receiving payments
• Production and explanation of a trial balance -
Duration: allow approx 50 hours (if you already have previous bookkeeping / accounts experience this may take less time)

His various positions held with Hewlett Packard include: Software Development Engineer, Support, Engineer, Technical Account Manager, Manager Response Centre and Support & Operations Manager for Sirenic Ltd. In addition to his extensive IT and bookkeeping career, Nick is also the Director of Southampton Bookkeeping Ltd providing bookkeeping services to clients and also tutoring students for the ICB exams.
