MARINE CONSERVATION CAREERS

Career Opportunities include:

Marine conservation focuses on making people aware of the importance in using science to protect marine resouces worldwide.

While a degree in Marine Science/Biology might be required by some organisations, it is not necessary essential to have a degree in order to begin your career.  It will depend on how far you wish to progress within the industry.

A great way to get started is to participate working as a volunteer in some sort of Marine Conservation programme, such as, cleaning up beaches, maybe assisting a Marine Park, or working for marine consultants, in order to increase your knowledge and acquire conservation skills. There are also many intern opportunities in Marine Conservation abroad.

Internships or voluntary programmes are an excellent way to help expand your professional development. You could consider:

  • Undertaking some practical experience that relates to marine life
  • Increase your knowledge of the ocean’s ecosystems through workshops, lectures and studying short courses on conservation.
  • Become qualified to dive in the oceans.
  • Enroll on an online course, such as ADL’s Diploma in Marine Conservation to increase your knowledge, improve your skills and understanding the importance of a healthy marine environment. A course at this level will equip you with a strong foundation in the basics of Marine Conservation.
