Counselling and Psychology 1200 Hours Higher Advanced Diploma
Hi This is Jyothirmai Parimisetti from India. I am working with well reputed educational university. I am planning to enhance my qualification for my further career growth. What is the preferable educational eligibility for Counselling & Psychology...Please update. Thanks Jyothirmai Parimisetti
Thank you for getting in touch.
There are no prerequisites for the course. Each module making up the Higher Advanced Diploma has been designed over many years by industry relevant professionals, to be completed students with no counselling and psychology background. The only requirement is that you should have a good standard of reading and written English. Our courses are open to anyone who wishes to improve their professional development, or to set up their own counselling practice in the UK and other countries where counselling is an unregulated profession.
I hope that this helps.
Hi, you stated below that - "a degree is also a level 6 qualification, you may decide to use it to go on to do a Masters (level 7) qualification instead" - Do you know any Uni's/Education bodies that accept this qualification onto a masters degree? Many thanks.
Thank you for your question.
We have been informed that Wrexham and Sunderland will accept this qualification with relevant work experience on to their degree programs. However i is probably not sufficient to get on to a Master's without doing some top up subjects to turn it into a degree first. It would be a good idea if you contacted either or both universities to discuss this with them before enrolling.
I hope that this helps.
Hi, i have 3 questions 1) this diploma is equivalent to what level? 2) if i do this diploma, can i use it as my foundation degree for further studies(BSc degree)? 3) What is the entry requirment for this course?
Hello Amen and thank you for your questions about the course.
The Higher Advanced Diploma has been assessed at level 6 when compared to the UK Framework for Higher Education Qualifications (FHEQ) and the European Qualifications Framework (EQF).
Many students have used our courses to go on to university and we advise you to check with those that you are interested in, before enroling. Howether, as a degree is also a level 6 qualification, you may decide to use it to go on to do a Masters (level 7) qualification instead, or you may just decide to practice with this qualification only.
There are no entry requirements for the course, other than a good standard of English. We include free courses in Academic Writing and Critical Thinking for those students who haven't done this level of study before, to help every student to succeed with us.
As you will see from the course page, the course has been endorsed by an Ofqual Approved Awarding Organisation. The Office of Qualifications and Examinations Regulation (Ofqual) is a non-ministerial government department that regulates qualifications, exams and tests in England. Colloquially and publicly, Ofqual is often referred to as the exam "watchdog".
It has also been accredited by ACCPH - The Professional Body for Counsellors, Coaches, Psychotherapists and Clinical Hypnotherapists and the better known CMA - The Complimentary Medicine Association. Both organisations allow you to join them and put letters after your name.
The course hours of 1200 should be taken as a guide only, because we encourage students to work at their own pace.
The course aims to give you an education that will serve you for life; it is not designed to be a "fast track" qualification where you study, pass an exam and then forget what you learnt. It will not only present you with information, but also guide you through a series of experiences that will improve your ability to understand, communicate, solve problems and continue expanding your knowledge and skills within the discipline you study.
I hope that this is helpful.
I'm wondering if someone can offer some advice about this course. I have an undergrad MA in Psychology & Philosophy from Edinburgh University. Following the completion of this, I trained as a secondary school teacher and have been a fully qualified English + Literature specialist for 6 years, 4 of which have been in Kenya (where I still live). I also have an MA in Education from Manchester University. However, I'm ready to leave teaching and want to go back into psychology. The problem: with two MAs already (although the psych one was an undergraduate course), I'm not sure what course is best to enroll on in order to 'get into' counselling. Some courses seem to have a firm route in 'an introduction to psychology' which I have already covered in depth. Is there a way of using my existing degrees as credits towards the higher advanced diploma for example? Any help would be hugely appreciated!
Thank you for your question and the biography on your previous qualifications.
I am please to confirm that you can indeed use your previous credits against a qualification from us. Here is the relevant link on our website regarding RPL (Recognition of Prior Learning).
The main thing is to ask for a form to complete and email it back to us with your proof of prior learning. Our Founder and Director of Vocational Training: Daryl D Tempest-Mogg, will look at your previous qualifications and let you know how much of the course you can be excused from, along with any cost reduction.

Six Elective Modules: Elective studies will broaden foundation knowledge and skills into other areas which are of value to persons working in one or several sectors of counselling. They give the student the opportunity to study areas that are of interest to them.

Scope of Counselling
Counselling means different things to different people. It is not a 'get well quick' option, offering quick answers, but is asking the person to engage in a process and an exploration. There are many definitions of counselling. A simple version is that counselling is a working relationship where the client is helped to manage what is happening in their life, by exploring their challenges. It is part of a group of disciplines covering mental health, known as Taliking Therapis, which seek to help people change how they think and feel. The aim of counselling is to provide the client with a more satisfying experience of life. Everyone has different needs, so you will need to be adaptable for every new client. .
Counsellors may work in any of the following situations:
- Churches & Welfare organisations employ counsellors on all levels -from minimally trained volunteers to highly trained professionals
- Careers Advisors in Employment Agencies, with Resume Writing Services, Employment Support offices (government, universities, etc)
- Life Coaches, Food/Weight Consultants, etc
- Youth Workers, Social Workers, Family Support Services, Health Support Services
- Funeral Services
- Industrial relations negotiators, union representatives
- Teachers, Lecturers, School & College support staff
- Support staff for medical practitioners -chiropractors, doctors, physiotherapists etc, are increasingly using counsellors to provide a supplementary service through their clinic
- The scope and nature of counselling keeps changing, and job opportunities keep changing -It is a certainty that some of the best opportunities you will find after graduating, have probably not even been conceived at the time you commence your study. This is the nature of today's world!
