Learn Eco-farming techniques using organic, biodynamic methods! Become a successful organic farmer! Organic farming has been growing in popularity, with farmers adopting it for economic, ethical or sustainability reasons there is no doubt that this method of farming is set to stay.
This distance learning course will teach you to manage both plant and animal production in a natural and environmentally responsible way. You will develop a solid foundation knowledge in how to set up an organic farm, or convert an existing farm to organic practices.
A sustainable food production system is important, economically viable, and sustainable when it comes to organic farming and production.
The soils of farmlands, the environment, consumers, and future generations benefit from this practice:
• There are fewer costly inputs required with organic farming than with many mainstream, traditional farming methods.
• With the application of appropriate, long-term, sustainable strategies, it reduces the risk of land degradation and can even improve soils and land health.
• Over the past few years, organic produce has become increasingly popular.
Experiential learning is the basis of this course. A variety of industry professionals will be available during your studies to give you the opportunity to network and learn from them. For career success, it’s essential to establish real-world relationships and gain confidence.

THE SCOPE OF ORGANIC FARMING
In many developed countries, including the US, the UK, and Australia, organic produce has been the fastest growing sector of agriculture over the last decade. In Australia farmers cannot grow enough organic produce to meet local demand.
There is a significant demand in Japan and Europe for quality organic produce, so there are strong opportunities for organic farmers to supply produce for export markets. In the UK in recent years, sales through box schemes, farmers’ markets and farm shops have grown faster than any other retail outlet.
Around 47% of organic farmers in the UK are likely to sell direct to the consumer, compared to 19% of non-organic farmers. In the US there is a crisis in organic milk products as chain food stores have incorporated organic yoghurt amongst their products, and demand has exceeded production.
Government agriculture departments have recognised the significance of the organics industry and are now promoting organic farming methods as being sustainable and viable alternatives to conventional farming.
Assessment is based on a combination of completing all assignments and sitting for a final short one and a half hour exam, in your own location.
If you don’t cope well with exams then you may elect to undertake a project instead. This is a popular option.
In addition, most modules have a Set Task at the end of each lesson placed before the assignment. This is an opportunity to undertake practical work to help you acquire knowledge and skills and practical experience. This ADL feature is an added bonus not found at most online schools. Set Tasks are not required for assessment.Â
Some courses also have optional Self-Tests which are available on our online learning platform. These are not available by correspondence or by USB, and do not form part of your overall grade.
