Learn About Industry Project

How Industry Projects work?

A learning experience that reinforces what a student has learned from their studies. Through experiential learning, knowledge is enhanced or embedded deeply through application. Some situations require a student to further adapt their learning.

This page contains only informational content.

In order to satisfy this requirement, there are many options available. Please read the below and contact us if you have questions!

Work experience and industry meetings are common unstructured options
Work experience, paid or unpaid, in a relevant context is the most common way to satisfy an industry project requirement – followed by a reference from an employer or a workplace colleague, detailing the hours spent working on the project. Work experience is highly regarded.

In the case of applicants who can provide suitable references from their employers, past or present, that show they have already met the project’s requirements, they will be exempt from this project.

Several Other Options Are Available

Participating in a formal mentoring program, participating in conferences, seminars, joining professional or amateur clubs, attending industry events, or networking with colleagues may also be options.

A list of references (if credible) is all that is required. If references are not applicable, perhaps any email threads showing involvement, or seminar information etc, can be a convenient way to evidence what you have done.

Workshops and research projects are common structured options

Unstructured approaches may not meet the requirements of some industry projects. The challenges may be greater for students who are differently abled, isolated, or incarcerated.

When such circumstances arise, ADL may offer formal structured modules such as Workshop I, II, III, or Research Project I, II, III, IV as options (based on the course).

A structured option (and module selection) will need to be discussed with the student services team if this applies to you.  Until then, take a look at each of the modules mentioned below:

In the meantime you can review information on each of the modules mentioned above:

Workshop I

Workshop II

Workshop III

Research Project I

Research Project II

Research Project III

Research Project IV

Courses requiring more than 100 hours (such as 200 hours) may have more than one option for completing the required hours. In this case, 200 hours could be divided into two projects, each of 100 hours.

In addition to meeting course requirements, this can also be a great way to meet the required number of hours.

Work experience of 200 hours may be preferred by some students.

HOW DOES THIS COURSE HELP YOU?

Interviewing for a job can be challenging if you have no industry experience but have completed a qualification.
An employer is more likely to see you as a serious contender – i.e. a person who is interested in the industry – when they see you have done the research, studied the industry, and completed a formal workplace project.
