Learn About Managing Innovation
Product, process, and service innovations have significant opportunity to positively affect the planet. Using an innovation mindset and reworking existing technology and ideas can improve sustainability, which may reduce pollution and help in the battle against climate change.
In this course you will explore:
- types of innovation
- prototyping

- ow to manage risks and problemsThese skills will benefit people in business, supply chain, technology and many more.
On a macroeconomic scale, innovation has many knock-on effects. Innovation increases economic growth through increased productivity, which ultimately increases a nation’s gross domestic product (GDP).
This makes innovation and technological improvement attractive on a governmental level.
It is also important on a human level. It can lead to large technological shifts, as seen in the shift from steam power to electrical power, and small-scale farming to larger agronomic systems.
Innovation can also lead to improved access to education and thereby improved educational outcomes through the use of technology and improved teaching methods, which stand to benefit children and adults all over the world.

BENEFITS OF INNOVATIONS FOR THE HUMAN RACE AND THE PLANET
On a macroeconomic scale, innovation has many knock-on effects. Innovation increases economic growth through increased productivity, which ultimately increases a nation’s gross domestic product (GDP). This makes innovation and technological improvement attractive on a governmental level.
It is also important on a human level. It can lead to large technological shifts, as seen in the shift from steam power to electrical power, and small-scale farming to larger agronomic systems. This type of change – or innovation – has resulted in mass increases in productivity which have led to increased access to food, water, electricity, and other needs around the world.
Innovation can also lead to improved access to education and thereby improved educational outcomes through the use of technology and improved teaching methods, which stand to benefit children and adults all over the world.
Finally, innovation can affect the planet. Using an innovation mindset and reworking existing technology and ideas can improve sustainability, which may reduce pollution and help in the battle against climate change.
Business Innovation
On a smaller scale, innovation is important for businesses because it is a key part of remaining agile in ever-changing environments.
This is especially important as we move into more technologically demanding times, where competition may grow rapidly, particularly as the cost of outsourcing and automating labour decreases. In terms of improvement, innovation offers businesses the opportunity to find ways to:
- improve return on investment (ROI)
- increase productivity
- differentiate themselves from the current market
- develop their competitive advantage
- and improve company outcomes and culture.
Innovation can also help a company grow and expand. We can see examples of this in companies which have diversified, or in verticals such as Luxxotica, which started out contracting to make some parts for optical supply, and now controls most of the manufacturing and supply for glasses all over the world, including major design brands and supply to all large optical stores.
In Luxxotica’s case, innovation began with founder Del Vecchio’s move from making components for glasses to making and supplying whole ready-made frames, which meant taking on product development (research, design, engineering) and manufacturing, instead of leaving the development to others.
This shift to a ready-made product made Luxxotica much more competitive in the marketplace.
In short, businesses must be innovative because it helps them to adapt to changing demands and circumstances, and to be able to grow and survive financially. For businesses, innovation is an ongoing process.
It is a way that they can keep adapting and refining the way they do things as well as improve their products and services to increase market share.
The most obvious forms of employee innovation in organisations are products and services, however other types of employee innovation include devising a more efficient production method, a novel organisational structure, or a cost-saving efficiency.
Besides businesses, all sorts of organisations innovate. These include universities, hospitals, schools, local governments, police forces, and trades associations.
Innovation here may be more concerned with improving management systems, work protocols, assessment processes, and so forth. Innovative changes to systems can help improve productivity or efficiency.
Assessment is based on a combination of completing all assignments and sitting for a final short one and a half hour exam, in your own location.
If you don’t cope well with exams then you may elect to undertake a project instead. This is a popular option.
In addition, most modules have a Set Task at the end of each lesson placed before the assignment. This is an opportunity to undertake practical work to help you acquire knowledge and skills and practical experience. This ADL feature is an added bonus not found at most online schools. Set Tasks are not required for assessment.Â
Some courses also have optional Self-Tests which are available on our online learning platform. These are not available by correspondence or by USB, and do not form part of your overall grade.
- Choose Your Learning Method
You choose how you would like to receive your course material, i.e., Online, USB or Correspondence. The choice is yours. You may also work on online or offline. - Tutor Allocation
Every student is assigned their own dedicated tutor who is an expert in their subject area. They provide as much or as little individual contact as you require. You can contact your tutor whenever you need – your hours are not limited. - Feedback and Assignments
Tutor Feedback is an essential component in helping you understand the subject matter. Tutor feedback is given in the form of notes written on the assignment. We encourage you to contact your Tutor where help with clarification and understanding of course material may be required.
Your assignments are located at the end of each lesson. You submit them for marking whenever you are ready. There is no time limit.  - Set Tasks and Self-Tests
Most modules have a Set Task at the end of each lesson before for the assignment. This is where you get the opportunity to undertake practical work to help you acquire knowledge, skills and practical experience. Many modules also have short Self-Tests. - Exams
Once all assignments have been completed you may then elect to sit for a one and half hour exam in your own location. If you prefer not to take the exam you do have the option to undertake a project instead.
Once the exam or project part of the course is completed, your Certificate is then processed. Please allow approximately 4 weeks for this. - Design Your Own Qualification
ADL offers students the flexibility to self-design their own qualification – bundling together a combination of 100-hour modules into a qualification higher than a certificate.
