PLAGIARISM POLICY

Plagiarism is the illegal and/or unethical copying of material without acknowledgment of its source. Plagiarism is not tolerated and will be penalised. Therefore, it is very important that students understand the differences between plagiarism and acceptable use and interpretation of someone else’s work.

It is acceptable to use information from another source as a minor part of your own work, if the original source is properly referenced (i.e. It is made clear where that information came from). It is not acceptable to present work which is substantially little more than an identical copy of information (words or graphics) from another source, without acknowledging the source or in such a way that the reader (or tutor)
could believe it is your original work. If you are not sure on how to reference material, please refer to our  Academic Writing course.

You risk a period of suspension, a monetary fine, or even expulsion from a course, if found guilty of plagiarism. You will also be fully liable for any legal action taken by the owner of material which you plagiarise. The academy accepts no legal liability for the actions of its students during or after studies.

Our plagiarism policy is as follows:

If you copy part of a sentence or quantities of sentences, word for word from the internet, a book, magazine, course notes or anywhere else, it is considered to be plagiarism. Plagiarism is considered by most credible academics around the world to be unacceptable and for this reason, ADL cannot issue a formal pass and qualification to anyone who practices plagiarism. Incidents of plagiarism have damaged the reputations of some colleges and universities. ADL has established a very good academic reputation in part because of the fact that we do not tolerate plagiarism.

Bearing this in mind, it is in the interest of our graduates that we take a firm stand against plagiarism. The value of the studies you pursue and the qualification you and other students attain, is dependent upon an anti plagiarism policy.

Plagiarism is easily detected by tutors marking papers, through the use of web searches, changes in writing style and tone and depth of technical content. If plagiarism is detected in any work by a student, the incident will be noted on the student’s records. They will be asked to rewrite and resubmit their work.

When deciding the final result for a course or module, we always take into account more than just the performance in an exam. Any student found to have plagiarised will be closely monitored to ensure compliance before being given a pass.

If a student continues to plagiarise after being warned, they are not going to learn as much as they otherwise would from the course, and as a result it is inappropriate to give them a pass.

Why Plagiarism is such an issue

Some colleges may accept some degree of plagiarism; more so in some countries than others. This may be due to a cultural attitude, or perhaps just an ignorance of the problem. Copying work does not enhance learning in the same way as reinterpreting researched information, derived from a variety of different sources. It is important for a student to clearly understand the difference between plagiarism and research.

Plagiarism is not accepted in the most respected academic circles around the world. If you practice plagiarism, you will potentially devalue your potential for career development in the future.
If you plagiarise work when you are a student, you will be developing a bad habit that may be difficult to break later in your career.

Plagiarism is illegal in some countries, and can attract heavy fines or legal action.

Please note:

In common with all ADL courses it is essential that the work is your own. You can use resources and books to help with the work, but you must reference them. The main body of the project and
conclusions must be your own work. Plagiarism is not acceptable and you will be asked to resubmit your assignment if the tutor detects copied work. Repeated occurrences of plagiarism will result in the following penalties:

1:- The assignment not gaining a mark and considered VOID.

In the instance of Plagiarism found apparent in examinations:
2:- The MODULE or Certificate will be considered FAILED and grades already obtained lost.
