Online Counselling Courses
ADL’s professionally accredited online counselling courses will give you the skills you need to become a self-employed counsellor in the UK without a degree or going to university.
Counselling falls under the umbrella of “Talking Therapies” and encourages people to talk about their life challenges in a non-judgemental or threatening environment and then to be guided to work through a resolution and so improve their mental health. It begins with understanding a counsellor’s role in helping others and our short and extended counselling training courses will help you in this and other counselling techniques.
So what do you need to be a counsellor?
Firstly, you will need to be an excellent listener, prepared to allow your clients to fully discuss their problems without jumping in to offer advice on how they can put everything right. There’s an old saying that “telling isn’t selling” and this is especially relevant to counselling. People need to be helped to find their own solutions, not have them given to them.
Secondly, you should enhance your natural ability to help others with formal counselling training. We have courses in Counselling Skills and Counselling Techniques, plus specialised programs such as Bereavement and Grief Counselling, Careers Counselling, Child Counselling and Family Counselling.
In addition, we have life skills coaching courses in Anger Management, Caring for Older People, Motivation and Play Therapy and more, plus many courses in psychology to help you understand your clients’ challenges better.
Thirdly, gain professional recognition as soon as you have qualified by joining one or both organisations that accredit our online distance learning courses in counselling, psychology and life coaching. ACCPH – The Professional Body for Accredited Coaches, Counsellors, Psychotherapists and clinical Hypnotherapists, plus the CMA – Complimentary Medicine Association, have reviewed our courses and declared them suitable for the online training of Counsellors, Psychotherapists and Life Coaches.
The courses in this category accredited by ACCPH – The Professional Body for Accredited Counsellors, Coaches, Psychotherapists and clinical Hypnotherapists, are accepted to be at the following levels:
- 100-hour Certificate Courses = Level 3 (apart from Level 4 Professional Supervision for Counsellors).
- 400-hour Advanced Certificate Courses = Level 4
- 600-hour Diplomas = Level 5
- 800-hour Advanced Diplomas = Level 6
- 1200-hour Higher Advanced Diplomas = Level 6
Many courses are also accredited by the CMA – The Complimentary Medicine Association. Please see individual courses for which ones are accepted by one or both organisations.
N.B. Students completing three courses will hold level 3 qualifications for each. On completion of a fourth, that can either have another level 3 qualification or upgrade to a Level 4 Advanced Certificate. Students are also permitted to complete additional courses to enhance their qualification and so their areas of expertise, right up to a Level 6 Higher Advanced Diploma.
Learn online via distance learning: With mentor/tutor support throughout, our counselling courses can be studied by distance learning anywhere in the World.
Get a counselling qualification: ADL offers a variety of programs with the opportunity to also gain an endorsed Certificate from TQUK, a UK Government approved awarding organisation, listed as “recognised” on the Ofqual Register.
Increase your chances of getting noticed: Employers like to see initiative and self-motivation in a potential employee, so completing an online course in your own time can only help you to stand out from other applicants who haven’t done so.
Continue your professional development (CPD): Learn how to enhance and improve the services you offer as a counselling practitioner, by learning something new to add to them. For example, you may already have great counselling skills, but do you want to develop your specific counselling areas of expertise?
