Unsurprisingly, one of the most critical skills that we can understand in life is how to learn. Or, more accurately, how we learn because we are all very different and at various points in our journey to understanding how we work best. This series is going to be an exploration of ideas that may prove beneficial to your journey to becoming your best self.
Freedom is a vague word often toted by all sides of the political, philosophical and moral spectrum and suggesting a definitive interpretation of it is both unhelpful and pointless. However, the general idea that freedom is our ability to do what we want is all we need for this article. In the context of learning, it allows our natural interest, style and decision-making to guide us, rather than relying on external forces. This affects two crucial parts; the first is where we are going, and the second is where we end up. By creating a learning experience that puts freedom at the forefront, you can dictate both how you learn and what you discover in that journey.
Motivation Comes from Within
We give tutor support with all our courses because we believe that you should be supported on your learning journey, but also because it lets you ask questions pertinent to your interests. It’s the reason why we notice that so many of our students are so driven because they are learning about things that are of genuine interest to themselves. The best motivation, of course, comes from within. Being taught via distance also gives our students the advantage of space; they are free to study at a pace that not only accommodates their work/life balance but also their personal rhythm.
Live According to Nature
Marcus Aurelius, a great stoic philosopher, describes one of the facets of a happy life as ‘living according to nature’. This does not mean that we should go away and live in the trees or stop showering. Instead, we should find rhythms and patterns in life that do not work against our interests. Sleep when you are tired, eat when you are hungry and learn when the time is right. If you try to cram knowledge into your head at a pace that does not suit you, you are unlikely to succeed. Instead, find places, times and habits that serve you, and remember to experiment! It’s the only way to make discoveries.
Follow Your Interests
This is also why we are constantly updating and expanding our library of courses. There would be no use in having so much freedom in how you learn with us if you did not have so much choice in what you learn with us. We also offer the option to build your own diploma, which is a fantastic way to make a framework to reach precisely the learning goals you would like to achieve.
